El Queso is a very interesting reef. It actually resembles a giant Gruyere cheese! With many holes and a labyrinth of passage ways, thus it is very important to follow a good guide who knows the area, as the bottom contours can change rapidly.
When the waters here are exceptionally clear and can be good for underwater photography and videography. You can spot all varieties of algae, many Stingrays, Angel Sharks, Cow Bream, Glass Eyes, Canarian Lobster, Bream and Guelly Jacks. Going inside the arcs and tunnels is usually not recommended for divers with little experience, it is essential to have good buoyancy control, and to be accompanied by a guide who knows the area very well, as there are parts of the reef that are unsafe to enter due to rock falls. Beginners can enjoy the beauties outside the reef.
