Las Anclas received its name because of the many old anchors littering the seabed, all coming from 16th century cargo ships.

Garachico is one of the oldest, most historic towns on Tenerife. In the 16th century, malmsey and sugar were exported from its dock to Europe, as the anchors littering the seabed bear testimony. The name Las Anclas or the Anchors refer to these anchors.
Sea conditions permitting, this is a straightforward dive. Access is gained to this dive from the harbor, descending some steps into the water, then swimming at the surface out of the harbor past the breakwater of large blocks, before submerging to a sandy platform at 10 meters and following a small ridge north-east to find several anchors at a depth of between 16 and 24 meters. The seabed here is rocky, with small ridges and cavities, and loose rocks, getting gradually deeper until we arrive at a gentle, sandy slope. Groups of white bream, damselfish, grey triggerfish, red hogfish, sea chub and with a little luck manta rays will glide elegantly over our heads.
